Lisa Windsteiger joins ifo institute in Fürth

On 1 October 2022, Dr Lisa Windsteiger is moving to the new Ludwig Erhard ifo Research Centre for Social Market Economy and Institutional Economics, a branch of the ifo Institute in Fürth. There she will fill the position of Deputy Director.

The research institute, founded in 2022, deals with the future of the social market economy in a changing economy and society. In the face of new challenges such as climate change, demographic change and digitalisation, the new institute will research how government action must evolve and what reforms, incentives and information are needed so that people, government and economic institutions can make better decisions.

“These are not only exciting research questions, but also highly relevant for our society,” says Lisa. “I am looking forward to the challenge and the opportunity to help shape this new research centre.”

The economist and mathematician conducts research in the field of microeconomics, political economy and finance, inter alia on the perception of income and wealth inequalities and attitudes towards redistribution. She is interested, for example, in how public discourse on the topic of refugees and migrants shapes the attitude towards financing the welfare state in parts of the population.
After earning a master’s degree in mathematics and a master’s in economics at the Vienna University of Technology and the Institute for Advanced Studies in Vienna, Lisa Windsteiger completed her PhD at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Since 2017, she has been working as a research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Tax Law and Public Finance.
