6th Munich Lecture on Securities Regulation and Corporate Law

Festive evening at the Max Planck Institute for Tax Law and Public Finance: Together with the Munich Centre for Capital Markets Law at LMU (MUCCL), our Institute  hosted the annual Munich Lecture on Securities Regulation and Corporate Law on 4 February.

Die Gastgeber zusammen mit Prof. Hommelhoff vor dem Veranstalungssaal am Marstallplatz 1The hosts Mathias Habersack, Hans-Christoph Grigoleit, Wolfgang Schön and Rüdiger Veil welcomed Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. mult. Peter Hommelhoff, former rector of Heidelberg University and leading representative of German and European corporate law, as keynote speaker.

The speaker, who has been actively involved in European legislation for decades, focused his talk on a current regulatory proposal from the European Commission, the ‘28th Regime’. Specifically, this proposal aims to establish a new, pan-European legal form for innovative companies, which would bring together innovators and investors and, in particular, enable broad financing for venture capital companies.

In his presentation, Hommelhoff discussed the financing side of the regime, but also covered a wide range of related issues, including company formation, minority protection, exit options, etc. The lecture hall at the Max Planck Institute was filled to capacity with a large number of corporate law experts from academia and practice, who enriched the discussion with a wide range of questions and comments. It was clear that this was the right topic at the right time.

The evening concluded with the presentation of awards for outstanding dissertations and seminar papers and a graduation reception hosted by the MUCCL sponsors' association.
