This interdisciplinary workshop brings together researchers interested in paternalism, broadly defined, from theoretical, applied, and experimental perspectives.
Many deeper questions arise around the fundamental trade-off in paternalistic interventions between respecting the individual’s autonomy of choice and the desire to prevent the individual from self-harming behavior and actions. At issue are not only the motivations of policymakers for such interventions or the preferences of those being paternalized, but also the societal and political consequences.
As the organizers, we are pleased to have an excellent line-up of talks over the two days of the workshop, and look forward to stimulating discussions during the breaks and dinner.
