Max Planck Summer School 2024
The Max Planck Summer School, entitled "Political Economy of Conflict and Redistribution (PolEcCon)," was held at the Harnack House in Berlin from 29 July to 1 August.
The Summer School on the Political Economy of Conflict and Redistribution, known for its research-oriented lectures, was this year designed by leading experts in the field. Kai A. Konrad (MPI for Tax Law and Public Finance / CEPR), Dan Kovenock (Chapman University) and Dominic Rohner (University of Lausanne / CEPR) crafted a programme.
This year, many of the 25 presentations focused on the intricacies and challenges inherent to the formation and sustainability of alliances, particularly in the context of international conflict. About 15 doctoral students participated in the event, presenting and discussing their early research results and discussed this with a number of more senior colleagues from Economics and Political Science. These included Sabine Flamand (Universitat Rovira i Virgili), Sara McLaughlin Mitchell (University of Iowa), Florian Morath (University of Innsbruck), Hannes Rusch (MPI for the Study of Crime, Security and Law / Maastricht University) and Marta Troya‐Martinez (New Economic School / CEPR) as well as two of the scientific organizers, Kai Konrad and Dan Kovenock.
